Business Summary
By eliminating legacy protocol layers, AoE enables near-bare-metal performance using commodity 1 GB and 10 GB Ethernet, delivering throughput that is up to 30% faster than Fibre Channel and 200% faster than iSCSI. Individual Coraid  EtherDrive arrays running SATA drives can deliver throughput of 1200 MB/s and high performance shelves at up to 1800 MB/s. Overall system performance can be inexpensively scaled up through the addition of more Ethernet HBAs and spindles, as well as faster SAS and SSD drives.

Price-performance
Starting from below £400 per terabyte, EtherDrive arrays offer up to a 5-8x price-performance advantage over legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI solutions. In addition to reducing CAPEX, EtherDrive reduces storage OPEX by eliminating complex multi-path topologies, software, rigid topology design and esoteric Fibre Channel configuration tasks.

Scalability
Coraid customers have scaled EtherDrive from 1TB to multiple petabyte (PB) solutions, one building block at a time. Coraid’s unique scale-out architecture allows customers to start small, and simply grow capacity by adding additional Ethernet capacity, HBAs, drives, and arrays.

Coraid EtherDrive products were designed from the ground up to support High Performance Virtual Computing (HPVC) environments. In contrast to connection-based legacy Fibre Channel and iSCSI, which require rigid topologies and complex change management, AoE’s datagram design enables unparalleled performance for highly dynamic virtual server workloads (e.g. VMware VMotionTM). EtherDrive arrays support a wide range of RAID and mirror configurations, enabling performance tuning of disk layouts to avoid bottlenecks. In addition, Coraid VS-Series appliances enable flexible storage virtualization capabilities across multiple storage arrays.

Coraid Company Background
